CARNIVAL
Also known as The Greatest Show On Earth, Carnival activities accelerate at the start of the calendar year and culminate on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. There is something for everyone during the Carnival Season!
Mas:
Celebrated on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Masqueraders organized into bands, cross the stage accompanied by DJ trucks to compete for the coveted Band Of The Year title in various categories.
Outdoor, night-time parties held in the weeks leading up to Carnival Monday and Tuesday celebrations, with musical entertainment.
Dimanche Gras:
Cultural show including the competitive finals of the King and Queen of the Carnival bands.
J'ouvert:
Celebrated in the early hours of the morning on the Monday before Ash Wednesday. Masqueraders roam the streets covered head-to-toe in substances including paint and mud.
Musical Competitions:
Competitions in the calypso and soca musical genres are held in the weeks leading up to the final days of celebration, along with the instrumental Panorama Competition.
Ash Wednesday:
The day is spent by many relaxing at the beach. Popular beach destinations include Maracas Bay in Trinidad and Pigeon Point or Store Bay in Tobago.
